The graphics are well a step above the original Gundam game, this represents how much we’ve progressed from 1995 and begins to demonstrate that there’s a future for these games to exist in the next generation of consoles. Like Zeta Gundam, this is set on a third person perspective. Released a year after Zeta Gundam for the PS1, Char’s Counterattack feels like a breath of fresh air since I’ve played MSG VERSION 2.0. Mobile Suit Gundam: Chars Counterattack Released: 1998 You can still find this game fairly cheap at $12 Average on Ebay listings, I don’t suggest Its worth picking up. If you really need to buy this, not that you want to. Only if we know that Gundam games would start to get better as time went on. Virtual On got released in 1996 and that was a perfect example of how Mech games should work.

It’s not a very good game by any standards, one thing I can compare it to is Virtual On. Gundam plays in the story of the 0079 anime, if you’re looking for exciting storytelling you’re not going to find it here. I understand how the PS1 wasn’t pushed as hard back in the day but I would at least expect some depth. The graphics reek of age, they may look fine at first but the overall presentation is just plain backdrops and some objects put in place. I always thought that your precision was the key of hitting targets not a god damn aim bot. Instead Press Triangle to auto aim your target and then it starts to make perfect sense. Talk about control, it’s really hard to describe about bad control. When I first played this, the camera was super sensitive that it made the game unplayable. I thought Doom made a clear example of how First Person Shooters were supposed to be built, Gundam is basically a step back leaving the D Pad or Analog stick to move the camera view. This isn’t executed very well, pushing L1 will make you walk rather than pressing forward on the left Analog. You need to feel as you are in charge of piloting the mobile suit and that’s the selling point of this game. The game is ass, the controls are awkward and that’s the big issue here is the control. Since they are essentially the same game, we’ll look into the 2nd version. The second version somewhat may have DualShock support, according to the format i’m playing on. Speaking of which, I wonder if the Jogcon or the NeGcon would work with this game. I had to learn the easy way by watching 2Old4Toy’s gameplay with Junior, I gotta say thanks for the advice Mr 2Old4Toys. So this is the first Gundam game for the PlayStation, way back during the growing stages of the console beating Sega Saturn’s ass in the western market with the $299 Price Tag.īut this means that using a Dual Analog or DualShock controller ain’t compatible with this title. Mobile Suit Gundam/Mobile Suit Gundam 2.0 Released: 1995/1996 As of this marathon of reviews, there are no translation patches for these RPGS.Īlso, PlayStation exclusives only and if there’s anything missing in this marathon of reviews they are either cross platform games or released only on the Saturn or the Nintendo 64. These games are not translated and take months to decipher to review to its potential.

Now in order to review these games, I will Disqualify the SD series and RPGS such as Perfect One Year War and Gihren’s Greed. The one console that destroyed the 5th Generation of Gaming and turned everything else into a fiasco. And in order to begin our venture into the Gundam Games, we should launch towards the PlayStation. Now I never had played these games before, and as expected with a licence like Gundam they may be literal crap or a gem hidden under a turd. It made sense that Gundam can make a profit in the video game industry. Gundam was spread though every Japanese home console and computer from the time of the re-release of Mobile Suit Gundam. So many Gundam Games, so many that I can go through the list according to both Wikipedia and Gundam Wiki and make a lengthy review on those.
